Service in Action

by Sophy Haig

Following an appeal from a local charity at Christmas for toys for refugee children, Newland College students decided they wanted to help.  They received this letter from the Rector of Chalfont St Giles Parish Church, in recognition of their efforts to help make a difference at Christmas.

Very many thanks to you all for your VERY kind and generous donation of toys for our Toy Service in the parish church on Sunday December 13th.
You provided a wonderful variety and number of toys which our curate, Jenny, and I took to the Slough Refugee Centre the following week.
On Friday December 18th we returned to the Centre for their Christmas Party when the toys were distributed to the families and children who come to the Centre for help and advice, having become refugees in our country from their homelands.
There are over 30 countries represented among the refugees who come along to the Centre for help and advice, from countries in Africa and the Middle East and Asia too.
Please do pass on theirs and our grateful thanks to all of the parents and children from school who contributed so much to making these families’ lives a little happier over Christmas with the gifts you so generously gave to them.
With all very best wishes to you in this new year and new term at your new school! How exciting!
